Medical Office Project

Chelsea Bariatrics is a medical facility that provides treatment and consultation for people with obesity. Its mission is to positively impact people's lives by giving them a chance to transform themselves physically for better health. Services consist of varying surgeries and treatments for weight loss. It is located in Chelsea, NY.
The concept behind the design of Chelsea Bariatrics is "transformation," much like the process of a caterpillar becoming a butterfly. Patients at the bariatrics center go through their own transformation, both physically and mentally as they go through the life- changing process of weight loss. Transparency and translucency influence the process of change as this materiality visually demonstrates varying layers of dimension and color.
The floor plan of the office shows a reception, waiting room, corridor, 4 exam rooms, 1 procedure room, 1 shared doctor's office, and supporting utility closets and storage.
The waiting room shows a ceiling made up of  a translucent blue acrylic,  cove lighting. anti microbial fabric finishes and wood finishes.
The corridor features a ceiling finished with iridescent acrylic plastic. The multi colored material  changes as you walk through, symbolic of the transformation that takes place at the bariatrics office. The corridor connects the waiting area, where the patient's journey begins, to the exam and procedure room, where the patient is "transformed." The ceiling is backlit, showing even more multi- dimensionality to represent a magnificent change.
